Pink Day returns to Leechburg

Vicki and Gary Peterman established Leechburg’s Pink Day Celebration and Fundraiser in 2011. The Petermans had a small gift shop and garden center, and wanting to become more involved with Leechburg, they centered an event on a pink hydrangea. Every time someone bought this specific hydrangea, the Petermans made a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Since then, Pink Day has been an annual event. Local officials close a three-block stretch of Market Street, turning it into a space for a festival. The event has grown over time, and now thousands of people attend every year.

The celebration lasts a full day, and features as many as 100 local organizations and product vendors, as well as food vendors, raffles, children’s activities, live entertainment, and more. Local businesses have chipped in to support the event, so organizers can offer something for everyone.

Pink Day supports women with breast cancer, survivors of the disease, and honors families who have lost loved ones. Pink Day has an impressive record. Through 2021, the nonprofit has raised over $170,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York. BCRF is the highest rated breast cancer organization in the nation. The foundation uses 90% of the donated fuds for treatment and research.

Pink Day is September 21. When organizers plan events like this, they often contact printers who use banner printing to create decorations that stand up to all weather conditions.
