Colorful event scheduled near Leechburg
An Indian festival that has become hugely popular in the West is coming to Apollo, a few miles from Leechburg.
The upcoming color run is inspired by the Indian Holi festival, which is a Hindu Festival of Colors, Love, and Spring. It commemorates the eternal love of Radha, the goddess of love, and Krishna, who is a god in his own right but is also an avatar of Vishu, the Supreme Being. The day also celebrates the victory of good over evil, and while it has been a major festival in India for many years, it is now spreading throughout the world.
Although the run celebrates spring, it has become mostly an occasion for people to have a lot of fun throwing vivid colors at each other.
The run in Apollo starts in Kunkle Park, where participants can enjoy concessions and music before the event. Registration will be confirmed and checked, and everyone will have a chance to buy a raffle ticket. The run is next, followed by the Color Blast, where all participants gather to throw color at one another.
The event begins with the Kunkle Park gathering at 11.00 am, followed by the run at 1.00 pm, the Color Blast at 2.00 pm, with raffle winners announced at 3.00 pm. The run is scheduled for April 13, and is a walk or run, untimed race. Organizers of events like this will often use banner printing to create markers for the course.
