Town and university reach traffic research agreement

Cranberry Township and Purdue University have ratified an agreement to combine forces to analyze the township’s traffic patterns and other data.

The agreement, approved by township supervisors, was reached the first week of February and will allow researchers from Perdue to have access to Cranberry’s video monitoring systems as well as its data analyzing programs. In return, the township will receive input from the researchers on how to make the most of its system.

Purdue approached Cranberry Township in response to a recommendation from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PDOT). Cranberry’s Centrax, a state-of-the-art traffic management system, makes the township an ideal location for this project, and is the attraction for researchers.

Perdue was looking for a traffic system that could provide it with advanced analytics. Another factor that made Cranberry a good choice for this research was its limited population and high traffic volume. One area of particular interest will be how the Centrax system influences traffic flow at intersections via its interaction with traffic signals.

Cranberry has partnered with other universities on occasion and reaped the benefit of their research. Explaining to the public how this kind of study provides the township with free technological advice and makes Cranberry Township a better place to live is best facilitated by partnering with a local professional Print company.
