Cranberry Township will make an artistic start to America 250, the country’s semi-quincentennial celebrations marking the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Later this month, the township will unveil a display as part of America 250 Bells Across PA, a statewide series in which fiberglass bells have been transformed into works of art.
The Butler Bell will be presented to the public in a ceremony at the Cranberry municipal center. The decorated bell is the work of Tom Panei, an area artist who has created an abstract portrayal of Butler County featuring the county courthouse, a large sun and musical notes. The ceremony will also include an American flag presentation by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 879, speeches by area dignitaries and a performance from the Butler County Symphony Orchestra.
The Butler Bell is one of two to be seen in the county as the courthouse is already home to The Butler County Heritage Bell, the design of artist Paula Slomer. Both bells will be displayed until the end of the year as part of the program's goal to encourage the community’s recognition of the past and goal to uphold democracy in the future.
Organizers of celebratory events such as this often use flyer printing for their programs and other promotional materials.
The Butler Bell will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.
