Local Elks Lodge shows community spirit with donations

On July 27, the Cranberry Township Elks Lodge made donations of $650 each to three township organizations: the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, and the Cranberry Public Library.

According to Pennsylvania Elks Association former president and past president of our local lodge, Terry Liersaph, members have access to social quarters at the club but the opportunity to be involved in the community is the best part of being an Elk.

In a press release, Liersaph said that the national Elks Association doles money out to its various chapters every year. This is done with the understanding that those lodges will then put the money into their community through via donations. Liersaph indicated that this was a way for the lodge to give back to the community.

Other donations the lodge made were $2,700 for the Disabled American Veterans organizations, $500 for the Wounded Warrior project, and $1,000 to VOICe.

The annual donation ceremony was held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 27, at the Cranberry Township Elk’s Lodge on route 19. A lodge member said in the press release that members always “really look forward to” the event.

Membership in a lodge provides an opportunity for networking. Moreover, including association with the Elks is something members can request to be included by their business card Print company.
