Residents of Cranberry Township interested in genealogy have interesting events coming up, presented by the Cranberry Public Library.
The Cranberry Genealogy Club has organized two meetings to assist people in researching genealogical records. The first is “A Genealogist’s Guide to the PA State Archives.” The presentation will be given by Aaron McWilliams, an archivist at Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg. He will explain which records in the state’s collection could be of interest to genealogists, and how to find them online.
The second event is “Facebook: A Tool for Genealogical Research.” Although a social media platform like Facebook may seem a strange place to search for factual research, it can be a good resource. The event’s presenter, Thomas MacEntee, will show how to use the platform to post questions, find other researchers, and leverage Facebook’s power. MacEntee points out that although people may be well known to waste time on Facebook, researchers who take a focused approach will find it a valuable tool. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create course materials and send them to attendees prior to the discussion.
Both meetings are being held via Zoom. The first meeting about the archives will be held on April 28, and the second, regarding Facebook, is scheduled for May 26. Both begin at 6:30 pm and although they are free, registration is required.
