A month before the opening of Breathe Pennsylvania’s camp for children with asthma, registration is underway.
The only lung health organization based in Southwestern Pennsylvania, Breathe Pennsylvania has operated a special camp for children with breathing problems for the last 31 years. Headquartered in Cranberry Township, Breathe Pennsylvania this year is holding its four-day Camp Huff-n-Puff in Uniontown at the Jumonville Camp and Retreat Center.
The camp is for children between the ages of 8 and 13 and includes a variety of activities, such as team challenges and swimming, all under careful supervision. The camp maintains an array of medical staff. In addition to respiratory therapists and nurses, medical doctors are on hand as well. Besides the fun aspect of camp, there is also an educational component with lessons in self-management techniques for asthma.
Campers sleep in air-conditioned cabins and the $125 tuition includes all meals. Full or partial scholarships are offered by Breathe Pennsylvania and are based on financial need. Spreading the word to those who could benefit from this camp is an effort that might be best accomplished with the services of brochure printers.
The goal of Breathe Pennsylvania is to educate and assist residents of Southwestern Pennsylvania in working toward optimal lung health. The group serves 10 counties, including Armstrong and Butler.
Camp Huff-n-Puff takes place August 13-16.
