Cranberry Township celebrated its 42nd annual Community Days celebration with flair, excitement, and more than a bit of sawdust.
The three-day event took place over a warm weekend in early July at the Pennsylvania township's Community Park. It concluded with a Saturday night fireworks display, following a musical performance by KardaZ and Uptown Rhythm and Bass.
For many, the biggest attraction was the Chainsaw Village, which was less violent than it sounds. Practiced carvers from Pennsylvania and beyond worked their magic creating wooden sculptures with chainsaws. All sculptures were available for sale and were also judged as part of a competition.
Those with more bucolic tastes could enjoy the carnival that ran for all three nights, including rides, games, and booths set up by local businesses. All together more than 175 vendors participated. Other events included a treasure hunt, a "community chase" 5k race, bingo, and the Rotary golf ball drop, with some competitions raising funds for future events.
Local events such as Community Days are truly collective productions, with many volunteers and enthusiasts pitching in. Such events often rely on local Print shops for items like banner printing or the colorful programs used by Cranberry's Community Days. With support of local families, vendors, and chainsaw experts, the event looks set to continue for many years to come.
