The Pittsburgh suburb of Cranberry Township has turned to community members for help in both the decoration and physical construction of a refurbished playground.
The old play-place in North Boundary Park, adjacent to Cranberry's water park, is in line to be updated. The quarter-acre area is designed to hosts three zones for children of different age groups.
In August, the township held meetings to consult with local families, including children, on subjects such as colours and features they wanted to see in the park. Now they are reaching out for more concrete support, asking for 200 adult volunteers to help construct the new playground. The hope is that such a communal effort will both bring people together and make the project affordable for the municipality. Bringing a community together for projects such as this often involves using both social media and local printing services for tools such as poster printing.
The $350, 000 project will be completed under the management of Kaboom!, a national organization that has put together similar community construction projects across the country. The building process will take place over the first weekend in October, with most of the work needed for ‘build day’ on October 4. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers, who will also be invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony later in the day. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up in advance.
