The Cranberry community came together the day after Thanksgiving to provide a rousing start to the holiday season.
The festivities began with the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire truck decked out with Christmas lights. A crowd was on hand at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, which was Santa’s first stop. Prior to his arrival, the crowd was entertained with several secular Christmas songs. Once he arrived, Santa flipped the switch that powered the lights on the community Christmas tree and other holiday lights on the municipal center’s grounds.
The time spent waiting for Santa was full of activities to keep children entertained. There was face painting, ornaments to decorate, and an area set aside for writing letters to Santa, with a convenient mailbox on hand specifically for the jolly old elf’s letters. Additionally, Mrs. Claus was on hand to talk to the children and the Living Treasures Animal Park, located in Lawrence County, provided two reindeer for viewing.
Other attractions of interest to young and old alike were a train display and the Cranberry Holiday Tree Gallery. The trains were set up in council chambers and put together by Steel City Lego Users Group, while the tree gallery was located in the lobby where 20 nonprofit groups contributed trees decorated in various themes.
Participation in the tree gallery provided these nonprofit groups with an excellent opportunity for promotion and information distribution via Brochures.
