Media undergoes water main replacement

A major water main replacement project costing $1.2 million is currently underway in Media.

Cast iron water mains with diameters of six, eight, ten, and twelve inches are being replaced. There are four roads in the borough where these water mains need replacing and they amount to a total of 5,353 feet.

The roads where the mains are being replaced are Haldeman Street, between Front Street and Third Street, Second Street, between Haldeman Street and Edgemont Street, Third Street, between Providence and Monroe Roads, and Edgemont Street, between Fourth Street and State Street.

The goal of replacing the water mains is to improve water flow in the area and reduce the potential for discolored water and breaks in the pipes. Print shops can be hired to create materials with more information about the benefits of such projects for residents.

The work is being undertaken as part of an infrastructure improvement project by Aqua Pennsylvania. Aqua Pennsylvania is a subsidiary of Aqua America, which handles the water service for 1.4 million residents in 32 counties in the state. The cost of the entire project is $6.9 million and is designed to improve the reliability of service for its customers throughout Delaware County. It is expected that 45 miles of water will be replaced in the county as part of this project.

The work is scheduled to be completed by April of next year.
