Road rally explores Chadds Ford history in style

History lovers with a love for automotive adventure have a unique experience on the agenda for this May, as a local battlefield has announced an untimed road rally.

The Battle of Independence: Amazing Race to Brandywine will be welcoming registered drivers and navigators who are ready to tour the surrounding area while learning local history. Family and friends are welcome to pile into the participating vehicle and join the journey, which will be held as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations for the United States.

The road rally is being organized to help visitors learn about the area’s history as it relates to the Brandywine Battlefield National Historic Landmark. The course will cover 10 square miles and explore what the area looked like in 1777, when the American Revolution was raging on. Print shops can provide detailed and high-quality printed maps to participants to show points of interest along the route.

All participants are welcome, and one ticket covers one participating car. The rally will not be timed in the interest of safety. The day will be around a scenic and self-guided tour of the battlefield featuring volunteers and costumed re-enactors.

Participants will start at the Brandywine Battlefield National Historic Landmark, starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 16. Pre-registration is required, and interested parties can purchase tickets online for $45 per car.
