Trip planned to mining village in Bristol area

The Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation will be hosting a trip to Eckley Miners Village and Jim Thorpe in October.

The trip will leave from the Grundy Recreational Center on Beaver Street in Bristol at 9:00 am. Included in the cost are round-trip transportation on a motorcoach and a three-course meal at the Inn at Jim Thorpe, with choices of chicken and broccoli alfredo, housemade crab cake, and steak burger with lettuce, tomato, and smoked cheddar cheese.

There will be a guided tour of the Eckley Miners' Village with a film and a visit to the museum. Eckley Village is on a mountain ridge at the heart of the largest concentration of anthracite coal in the world. The village was established in 1854 as a company-owned mining town. The village has been owned and operated by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission since 1970. The walking tour is for one mile and will be at a slow pace.

The cost of the trip is $128 for members of the Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation and $138 for non-members.

Brochure printing can be used to provide more details about such trips and their historical significance, and is a service available from local Print shops.

This trip will be on Wednesday, October 1. The estimated return time of the trip is 6:30 pm.
