Bucks County Community College will be holding Metalwork Information Sessions next week and next month in Bristol.
The Metalwork Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a free training program funded by a grant, and prepares students for jobs that are in high demand in advanced manufacturing, such as a quality insurance inspector, CNC operator, or machinist. Most students who graduate from the program find jobs that pay between $19 and $22 per hour with full benefits. Bucks County Community will help graduates to connect with local employers and support their search for a job.
The program lasts 10 weeks and combines hands-on training with learning in the classroom. Among the courses are using manual machines and hand tools, welding, reading Blueprints, safety in the workplace and with machines, OSHA 10 certification, and the Industrial Technologies Advanced Certificate from the United States Department of Energy.
The program is taught by industry experts who are also experienced instructors. Classes are held in person from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday at the Center for Advanced Technologies in Bristol. There are also opportunities for networking with local employers and tours of companies, and perhaps swapping Business Cards.
Information sessions will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24 and Tuesday, March 17 at Bucks County Community College on Veterans Highway in Bristol.
