The Bucks County Opportunity Council recently opened new offices in Bristol offering counseling services for those who need emergency shelter, affordable housing, employment training, and long-term help with financial endeavors. Those who are living in their cars or on the street will also have access to shower and laundry facilities.
A federal grant of $340,000 funded the new center. It is located in what was once the home to a Planned Parenthood on Veterans Highway.
Executive director for the nonprofit, Erin Lukoss, said there will be facilities so that people can work on computers and develop a resume, recharge their cellphones, and apply for jobs.
With the opening of this new facility, the Bucks County Opportunity Council will have three centers for client services, each open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. One of the other facilities is in Doylestown Township and serves families in Central Bucks County while the third once is in Quakertown serving those in Upper Bucks County. The center in Doylestown Township is the headquarters for the nonprofit, although Lukoss commented that a majority of its clients are from the Bristol area.
