New distribution center planned for Bristol shopping center

A new deal will see what was once a Walmart store in Bristol Park leased by a company for use as a warehouse and distribution center.

The facility will be for a wholesale liquidator with additional retail space for the public. The store spans 118,000 square feet and is at the intersection of Veterans Highway and Route 13.

It had been used since early this year as the site for the Bristol Indoor Flea Market. The store closed in late 2017 and the flea market took over the space soon thereafter. The marketing coordinator for Phila Flea Markets, Tony Soprano, said that the indoor market had been closed through June but has since been running outdoors and has been popular. He added that it will run through at least the beginning of November.

The owner of the shopping center, Brixmor, had created documents often created that promoted the site as a possible fulfillment center. Such materials are often put together by local Print shops.

Residents have speculated on what might take over the space, as one proposal suggested the demolition of a nearby store to allow for loading docks and the creation of three restaurants near the closed Walmart.

As yet, there has been no formal proposal received by Bristol Borough for demolition or land development at the site.
