High school in Bristol receives award for character

Bucks County Technical High School (BCTHS), a vocational school in Bristol, has been named a National School of Character for 2020.

This is a certification from Character.org, which is the highest level of distinction awarded by the organization – a national leader and advocate for character development in schools and communities. President of Character.org, Dr. Arthur Schwartz, said schools that receive this distinction have a comprehensive approach to enable their students to understand, care about, and practice core values that will enable them to thrive in school, in the workplace, in relationships, and as citizens.

Director of the Schools of Character program, Lori Soifer, added that educators at these schools teach their students to be trustworthy and honest, treat all people with dignity and respect, and contribute their talent and time to the common good. Announcements of such distinctions can be made known to the entire community with poster printing.

Administrative Director of BCTHS, Dr. Leon Poeske, said that arriving at this point involved an intensive three-year application process, which brought together those from the entire educational community of the school. He added that the score focuses not only on test scores, but on development of the child overall.

BCTHS will be honored at the National Forum of the National Schools of Character to be held in Washington, D.C. in March 2021.
