Lidl, a chain of German grocery stores, is planning to open a new location in Bristol.
Craig Bowen, President of the Bristol Township Council, said plans have been submitted by the chain for a store on New Falls Road, which was once the home of the Bell Telephone Company Building.
Bowen added that having this new store will be good for the school district as it brings in money from real estate taxes, and it will be good for the township as it brings in jobs and turns a decaying site into something more useful and awesome. Print shops may also benefit from such stores, as they may be involved in printing Flyers and other information about specials at such stores.
Lidl has said it will be opening 50 new stores in nine states by the end of next year. Pennsylvania is one state where it has expansion plans, which includes this store and another in Warminster that has been planned for the past few years. It also planning stores in Lancaster and Clifton Heights, and a store in northeast Philadelphia recently opened. The chain will be spending over $500m to build these stores and expects that they will create close to 2,000 jobs.
Lidl has a headquarters in the United States in Arlington County, Virginia and operates in 32 countries with over 11,000 stores.
