College to hold writing competition

Bucks County Community College is currently holding its Bucks County Short Fiction contest for the fourth consecutive year. The contest is open to all those in the county, including Bristol.

The contest is one way in which the college contributes to the cultural heritage of the region. The contest was started in 2017 by Elizabeth Luciano, a literature professor at the college, and is supported by the Language and Literature Department. Luciano said that the contest offers a unique opportunity for young people to express themselves and helps to nurture the creative writing in the community.

Residents of the county who are out of high school and 18 years of age and older can submit one story each to the contest. The story should be 12 pages of double-spaced text and not be previously published, including in an online format. More details about the requirements for such contests can be provided with poster printing.

The first, second, and third place winners of the competition will receive $200, $100, and $50, respectively.

Submissions are due Wednesday, October 21. The three winners will read their work at an online celebration to be held on Wednesday, November 18, beginning at 7:00pm.

The Bucks County High School Short Fiction contest will be held for younger students in the spring, with details to be made available early next year.
