Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) grants have been given to several schools in Bristol Township thanks to the PAsmart initiative.
Up to $35,000 has been given to several local school districts, including Neshaminy, Council Rock, Palisades, and Bristol Township. Those schools in Bristol Township receiving a grant are Keystone Elementary, Mill Creek Elementary, and Brookwood Elementary Schools. Poster printing companies can create announcements in such schools and the neighboring communities so that people learn more about such achievements
PAsmart is an initiative which was started by Governor Tom Wolfe to make $30 million in grants available for investment in STEM and computer science education for students in grades kindergarten through twelve and for professional development for teachers.
These funds would also be used for workforce development by supporting job training for underserved populations, careers that are in demand, and expanding registered apprenticeships. Registered apprenticeships enable workers and students to improve their skills for employment or advance their careers while they earn a paycheck from their employers. Since this program began in 2016, the number of registered apprentices has increased by 26 percent.
The Department of Education of Pennsylvania estimates that 300,000 new STEM jobs will be created in the commonwealth this year and that over the next 10 years, 70 percent of the jobs in the commonwealth will require the use of a computer.
