Bristol fire department awarded special funds

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to the Third District Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 of Bristol.

The amount of $638,545.45 will be used for training and equipping emergency personnel to help foster interoperability, enhance operational efficiencies, and support resilience in the community.

The funds will be distributed among the Bristol Consolidated Fire Department, Bristol Fire Company No. 1, Cornwells Fire Company, the Third District Fire Company, and the Newportville Fire Company. Announcements of such special funding are often made known throughout a community with poster printing.

The Fire Departments of Bensalem and Bristol plan to use the funds to replace the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment that they own as the equipment is reaching its life expectancy. This will equip the departments with safety features that are the most up-to-date.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said that this grant will ensure that the respective fire departments and companies will remain as the leaders in the county. He added that the program which is offered by the AFG is important financially not only to the fire departments in the county but to the residents who rely on the services they provide. The AFG program is designed to provide funding to enable fire departments and related organizations to improve their ability to protect the safety and health of their communities.
