Run and costume contest weeks away in Portland

Billed as the city’s favorite fun run, the Starlight Run, which precedes the CareOregon Parade, is now open for registration.

The run, its associated costume contest, and the following parade are all part of the over two-week-long Portland Rose Festival. The out-and-back course starts and finishes at Rose Festival CityFair on Naito Parkway. The 46th Annual Starlight Run will take the same route as the CareOregon Starlight Parade with runners taking off on the 3.1-mile at 6:30 pm on June 3. Bibs can be picked up starting at 4:00 pm the day of the race.

Banner printing services are an essential part of formal foot races to designate the starting line and the finish line, as well as for general promotion.

Many participants choose to run in costume. Screening of entries begins at 4:30 pm with the pre-judging for the costume contest beginning at 5:00 pm, and the primary judging taking place on Main Street at 5:30 pm. Categories for the costume contest are Youth Individual, Youth Group, Adult Individual, and Adult Group, with “Youth” covering the 6 through 15 age bracket.

Those participating in the costume contest need to have registered for the Starlight Run and have their event bib number on display. Presence at the pre-judging area no later than 4:30 pm is mandatory. All costumes must be G-rated, so those deemed by the judges to be distasteful or inappropriate will be disqualified. The decisions of the judges are final, although audience applause will be taken into consideration.
