The new year will be an exciting one for library patrons in Northwest Portland as the new Northwest Library is scheduled to open at its new, more spacious, modern location in early January 2026.
Funded by a capital bond passed for the purpose of transforming library spaces in November 2020, the new Northwest Library will be the latest of 15 building projects to be completed. Of those 15, an Operation Center was built along with four new libraries and 10 library refreshes.
Brochure printing services provide libraries with information across a wide spectrum much of which is supplied by one or another level of government.
The press will be given an advanced tour of the new library on January 7 and the Ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 9:30 am on January 10. To celebrate its new location and reopening Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th will be two fun-filled days with lots of special activities planned along with music and dancing.
The library had leased 2300 NW Thurman Street; however, the new location at 2030 NW Pettygrove Street will be library-owned and at 11,000 square feet will be over twice the former library’s size of 4,700 square feet. The new library building was purchased in 2021 with money from the voter-approved bond and was renovated per the library’s goal to cut the costs and uncertainty associated with leased spaces.
