One of the biggest summer festivals in downtown Portland, the Chinese Festival, is returning for another year, bringing with it culture, food, art, and plenty of entertainment.
The festival begins with a few words from the masters of ceremony, Daisy Conway, Jorie Liang, and Lucas Zhang. After that, festivalgoers can watch and listen to a wide variety of stage performers. More than 500 performers are expected to appear throughout the day, displaying the culture, clothing, and art of China.
The festival is also popular because of its authentic Chinese food. This year's food vendors include Home Taste, Little Beijing, and Mandarin House.
Guests have the opportunity to learn hands-on crafts. Festival hosts will teach participants about shuttlecock kicking, Chinese calligraphy, and origami, as well as a variety of others. There will also be face painting.
Other events include an artist's booth, Chinese antiques, and Chinese arts and crafts vendors. Buyers are advised that some only take cash payments.
Public health outreach booths will also be present for members of the community. At other events like this one, these types of booths sometimes use brochure printing services to provide take-home education for participants.
The Chinese Festival takes place Saturday, August 1 and is a free event. The hours are 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The address is 701 SW 6th Avenue in downtown Portland.
