What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Portlands Big Pink has new owner

One of the city’s most recognizable landmarks ‘Big Pink’, more properly known as the U.S. Bancorp Tower here in Portland has been purchased by Oregon businessman Jeff Swickard.

Swickard is the founder of Swickard Automotive that has grown to over 50 car dealerships spread across six states. The University of Oregon graduate says that he is now coming full-circle with his expansion into Portland real estate with his purchase of the 42-story office tower. He elaborated saying:

“More than 25 years ago, I interviewed for a job in Big Pink. To now own it is deeply meaningful. It’s also a responsibility.”

Swickard’s plans for the building include modernizing it and making it the premier office space for downtown Portland with first-rate amenities and a “hospitality-first” approach. Moreover, he plans to offer discounted rent for those businesses prepared to invest in Portland’s downtown.

Long before new developments are finished or renovations are done on an older structure, print shops are engaged to provide banners and brochures to facilitate leasing spaces.

“Big Pink” has approximately 1.2 million square feet of space and is Oregon’s largest office property. It has long been a symbol of downtown Portland’s skyline and in an all-cash deal was sold by the Swiss investment firm that had purchased it in 2015. The property will as before managed by Seattle-based Unico Properties.

Commercial properties owned by Swickard’s company now exceed over 2 million square feet and are scattered across the western U.S.
