What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Portlanders to stick with DST for now

It looks like Portland residents will once again have to set their clocks forward an hour to make the switch to Daylight Savings Time (DST), despite efforts of lawmakers to end the practice.

A recent attempt by Oregon lawmakers to rid the state of Daylight Savings Time fell through as Senate Bill 1548 will not have time to make it through the state’s house of representatives. The bill, which was amended to require the agreement of bordering states Washington and California before being implemented, was passed by the Senate.

Banner printing services can also provide a wide range of signage and promotional products used by politicians to increase their name recognition.

House Speaker Dan Rayfield, a spokesperson for the House, explained to KOIN News that the bill’s return to committee for amendments is what has stopped it from being passed this year. He said:

“Given the shortened timeline and the queue of critical bills we’re still working through, we aren’t able to give enough time to considering the merits of the bill in the time we have left this session.”

In 2019, it was decided that Oregon would be on permanent DST if California and Washington would follow suit by 2029. However, that bill was not successful in reaching a federal level.

If and when Oregon is able to eliminate the move to Daylight Savings Time, it will join Hawaii and Arizona in remaining on Standard Time.
