Portland series explores how our brain manipulates perceptions

A Science on Tap event will be held in September at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland that will explore how our brains use our vision to manipulate how we perceive the world.

A Portland-based event series, Science on Tap is a fun, relaxing way to learn about science. According to its website, continued learning is instrumental in the formation of new brain cells as well as neurological pathways; each of which are purported to help keep neurological degeneration at bay.

Entertainment venues find banner printing services particularly helpful in advertising upcoming events.

During the event beer will be available both because it is enjoyable and relaxing and because there is evidence that beer as well as leafy greens and coffee contain methylates, which can improve our epigenetic makeup.

According to neuroscience research, our brains evolved to make quick best-guesses about the world around us to facilitate our survival. At Science on Tap: Seeing the Big Picture, Dr. Mark Pitzer will weave stories and provide demonstrations exploring how our visual system alters our conscious awareness to assist us in navigating safely through our environment.

A neuroscientist, Dr. Pitzer, Ph.D. works at the University of Portland and has spent the last 25 years in the study and treatment of diseases of the brain, including Huntington’s and Parkinson’s.

This science on tap event takes place September 19, from 7 pm – 8:30 pm.
