Portland rocks out at marathon

Portland locals can enjoy a race and an expo, all in one weekend.

To start things off, residents can check out the Health and Fitness expo, where there will be free samples, vendors, and informational booths. No doubt businesses have used banner printing to make large signs for their booths.

Then, runners can participate in the 'Rock and Roll' Portland half marathon and 10K. The race will take participants along a scenic waterfront course that makes its way into downtown, through local neighborhoods and parks, and over bridges. Along the way, there will be bands performing. After the race, participants can meet up with their family and enjoy music and refreshments.

Registration costs $95 for the half marathon and $55 for the 10K. Registration includes a T-shirt, finisher’s medal, and bag, along with admission to the post-race festivities, concert, and health and fitness expo.

The expo will take place tomorrow, May 15, from noon until 6:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at the Oregon Convention Center, located on 777 Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. Admission is free but parking at the convention center costs $10.

The half marathon kicks off on Sunday, May 17 at 8:15 am, and the 10K begins at 8:30 am. The start line is located at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Southwest Naito Parkway.
