What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Portland goes wild for Halloween

Portland locals can take part in several wild Halloween events at the Oregon Zoo.

During the ‘Squishing of the Squash’, large land animals will destroy giant pumpkins.

Another highly anticipated event is the zoo’s traditional 'Howloween'. Designed for guests aged 3 - 11, kids are encouraged to dress up and enjoy trick-or-treating at various stations around the zoo, which has integrated educational ideas into the activities.

These events are free with admission. Tickets cost $11.50 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8.50 for children. Kids under two are free. Membership options are also available.

For an extra $30, or $25 for members, kids from ages 6 - 13 can take part in a nighttime, guided Halloween Safari. Included in the cost are a pizza dinner, costume contest, puzzles, stories and the opportunity to make caramel apples.

The Oregon Zoo consists of five major regional exhibits, such as Africa and the Great Northwest, broken up into smaller displays. It is likely that the zoo has used printing services to create promotional items for the Halloween events.

Guests can see the pumpkin squishing on October 24 at 10:30 am, while the safari fun will take place on October 25 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Finally, Howloween takes place on October 25 and 26 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Oregon Zoo is located on 4001 SW Canyon Road.
