What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Portland focuses on female filmmakers

This month, locals can take in a flick and celebrate women’s contributions to film.

The 8th Annual Portland Women’s Film Festival, otherwise known as the POW Fest, will be coming to The Hollywood Theatre. To promote this event, it is likely a poster printing service has created signs to display in and around the venue.

The event will begin with an opening night reception in the main theater. Then, there will be a showing of ‘The Sisterhood of the Night’, followed by some short films. Over the course of the festival, guests can enjoy a ‘Directors’ Mixer’, special screenings, more shorts, and a closing night reception.

The festival aims to support and showcase female directors and their work. In addition, the organizers hope to create opportunities for females, of all ages and expertise, in the film industry. During the movie and film short screenings, some of the directors will be present.

Tickets for each set of short films cost $8 per person. Admission to both ‘The Sisterhood of the Night’ and the opening night reception costs $10. For $40, individuals can also purchase a festival pass.

For $100, individuals can become annual POWfest members. Membership includes an all access pass to the festival along with other perks. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available.

The POW Fest takes place from March 12 through March 15. The Hollywood Theatre is located on 4122 Northeast Sandy Boulevard.
