PDX to bulldoze Concourse A in $2bn makeover

Concourse A at Portland International Airport’s has seen better days, and it has been decided that as part of PDX’s $2bn renovation, the outdated wing will be demolished.

Some travel agencies offer their clients maps of local airports as a courtesy, changes such as adding or expanding terminals means engaging print shops to print new airport maps.

The airports oldest concourse is used for flights with short travel times, which include departures to Medford, Spokane, and Seattle, which leave every half hour. A KGW.com articles notes that among the problems with Concourse A are its stained carpet, uncomfortable chairs, lack of concessions, and lack of adequate plug-ins for those needing to recharge their phone on a layover.

In November, after “A’s” flights are temporarily relocated to “C”, demolition will begin on the outdated concourse to enable the expansion of “B”. This is part of a five-year investment that will also include additional parking.

Concourse B’s expansion and renovation will provide ample comfortable seating and plenty of locations for recharging phones and laptops, as well as rest. Additional food and beverage choices will be available. The Screen Door will be there, as well as excellent coffee choices and an abundance of natural light.

The expansion of “B” is expected to be complete sometime in 2020.
