Arts festival returns to Portland

The 9th annual Fertile Ground Festival is taking place next month for 11 days, and is a presentation of the Portland Area Theatre Alliance.

The festival is dedicated to new acts of creation, meaning only shows that have never been produced will be accepted. It is a citywide event with dozens of venues participating. Shows will include visual art, music, theater, comedy, dance, readings, and even circus acts. Among the groups that performed at last year’s festival were the Northwest Children’s Theater and School, the Third Rail Reparatory company, and Theatre Vertigo.

Those who applied and were chosen to produce their own shows at the festival are helped along the way by the Portland Area Theatre Alliance. This includes such workshops as the PR and Marketing Bootcamp.

The festival usually kicks off with a party that is open to both performers and the public. A guide booklet listing every production and contact information is produced each year and provided to the public. Guides such as this are usually created with the help of Portland brochure printers.

The Fertile Ground Festival will be held at various venues in Portland from January 19 to 29. A pass is available for purchase for $50. To learn more about the shows that will be taking place at this year’s festival, contact the Portland Area Theatre Alliance at 971-803-7712.
