Annual Mexican festival returns to Portland

The 32nd annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is taking place over four days next month in Portland. It is presented by the Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association.

The festival promises to have lots of activities that should appeal to everyone in the family. The Artisan Village will be selling Mexican handicrafts and 12 of the artisans will be from Mexico. There is set to be a naturalizing ceremony, wrestling, amateur boxing, and carnival rides.

Entertainment will be provided by groups such as the Ballet Folklorico Mexico En La Piel, Ayala's Band, and Salsa Nova. Guests can also enjoy the Cinco Voz singing contest.

A children's area will have CPR classes, arts and crafts activities, and a live butterfly garden. For adults, there will be two free two-hour hands-on clay workshops led by Samuel Becerra, participants will create a pre-Columbian figure.

No doubt lots of Portland residents will want to know about this upcoming event. Organizers may decide to work with local flyer printing companies to help advertise the festival in the community.

The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will be held at Tom McCall Waterfront Park from May 5 to 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children aged 6 to 12. Unlimited carnival ride passes are $37.50 each. For more information, visit the official event website.
