What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Annual Bridge Pedal event scheduled

A dual community celebration of Portland’s biking culture and iconic bridges, “Bridge Pedal”, is scheduled to take place in August.

Despite its name, Bridge Pedal is for walkers as well as bikers who wish to participate in one of Portland’s favorite summertime traditions and enjoy traveling the city’s car-free streets and bridges. Included in the event are the upper decks of the Fremont and Marquam bridges.

The year will mark the 26th yearly celebration of bicycling, and once again ride options are available for all cyclists regardless of skill level or age. Altogether, there are six downtown bridges that walkers and bikers can cross. Banner printing services provide a means of promoting large events like this.

Youngsters can participate in the three-mile Kids Pedal that crosses the Steel and Hawthorne bridges at no cost, and pass the finish line alongside the rest of the cyclists. Walkers can take part in the five-mile Providence Bridge Stride that passes over the Steel and Fremont bridges.

Bridge Pedal takes place on August 14 and all who pedal or walk in the event will need to register. Children in a bike trailer or bike seat or stroller are not required to be registered. Part of the registration fees will benefit a program that assists some of the city’s most vulnerable citizens. Online registration will be possible until 11:59 pm on August 13.
