The Lake Oswego School District and the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce are collaborating to provide job shadow opportunities and internships for those students not planning to go on to college.
The Chamber is looking for businesses that are in the field of computer science, engineering, the culinary arts, and business and marketing to participate in this effort. A task force has been created to work out the details of these offerings, which may include internships either for pay or class credit, or less intensive opportunities such as job shadowing.
The program will first offer internships and then expand to include speakers who could visit schools in the area and apprenticeships. More information about such programs is often outlined in Flyers or Brochures created by local Print shops. The Chamber is also talking with other school districts that already offer similar programs.
Executive Director of the Chamber, Liz Hartman, said that students for the program have been identified by the school district, and now it is looking for businesses to provide the opportunities. She said the goal is to have a database of businesses schools can use to connect students with internships.
Hartman said the program will be piloted this summer and there will be a job fair at Lakeridge High School on Tuesday, April 11 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
