Once the Lake Oswego Recreation and Aquatic Center (LORAC) is completed next year, plans are to transform the Lake Oswego School District Pool into a flexible gym space.
News of such plans is often disseminated throughout the community with Flyers and other printed materials created by local printing services.
The LORAC is being built with funds from the 2017 capital bond of the Lake Oswego School District (LOSD) and the 2019 parks bond of the city. The project has a cost of close to $36 million.
The executive director of project management for LOSD, Tony Vandenberg, said that the current pool can be transformed into a flexible and large gyn and recreation space. Vandenberg is working on a presentation about decommissioning the old pool for the school board and is waiting for their approval before definitive plans about the former pool are revealed.
He feels that the most efficient use of the old pool is a multi-purpose gym but until the announcements are made about the 2025 bond program, the space will be decommissioned and updated to become a multi-use space pending approval of the school board.
Vandenberg added that space for a gymnasium is at a premium and if in the interim the space can be updated and repurposed inexpensively then a large open space will be created that can be used for big group meetings, a gymnasium, or any other such purpose.
