Train lovers invited to make tracks to Corvallis

Railfans have an event coming up in Corvallis that is designed just for them.

Winterail, a multi-media event, will soon be stopping in the town. There’s a saying that nobody doesn’t like a lighthouse or a caboose, and that sentiment can be expanded to include trains in general. Railfans, however, can look back on an industry that has moved millions of tons of cargo and passengers during a history that goes back to the early 1800s.

The first Winterail took place in 1978 in Sacramento, California. The event features multimedia slide presentations of outstanding photographs of railroads and railroad equipment. Railroad memorabilia is also sold at the event.

Dave Stanley created the show and produced it from 1978 to 1993. In 1979, the show relocated to Stockton, spent two years in Modesto, and in 2016, moved to Corvallis permanently. The event will feature a series of digital presentations from the best rail photographers, as well as a vendors’ room.

There will also be a photo contest, which is being touted as a potential highlight of a show focused on photographing railroads. Two separate categories of photos are allowed, with these being revenue railroading and recreational railroading. Artists may submit either black-and-white or color prints, which must be a minimum of 5x7 inches and no larger than 16x20 inches. Prizes will be awarded for the best photographs.

Winterail is scheduled for March 16 at the Corvallis High School Theatre. Organizers who plan events like this often use flyer printing to create a schedule of events.
