“Spamalot” is a creation of the legendary Monty Python troupe, and is the story of King Arthur’s search for the Holy Grail, although told through the warped lens of the Pythons. The play is based on the 1975 film, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” and features killer rabbits, cows, several French folks, and a lot of showbiz names.
“Spamalot” hit Broadway in 2005 where it won three Tonys, including one for “Best Musical,” and had two successful runs in London’s West End. Like all the material developed by the Pythons, “Spamalot” is witty, surreal, and sometimes shocking.
The title comes from the fact that Spam, the processed meat product, was the subject of a great many jokes made during the run of the influential British TV show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” A review of “Spamalot” says:
“It’s rude, it’s retro, it’s a riot.”
The show opens on Friday, May 3 at The Majestic Theatre on 2nd Street in Corvallis and runs through Sunday, May 19. There will be an American Sign Language interpretation performance on Sunday, May 5. General admission is $20, and seniors and students are $18. When events like this are scheduled, promoters will often work with poster printing companies to create suitable advertising for them.
