Metalachi got started in East Los Angeles, when a group of classically trained Mariachi musicians decided to perform “Iron Man” by Ozzy Osbourne in the mariachi style. They did it for fun, but in playing the number, created a fusion of the two styles that was unexpectedly popular and effective. They called the new approach “metalachi,” which one critic described as:
“. . . the most So-Cal thing that has ever happened.”
The musicians are noted for creating onstage personas, including sometimes wearing masks. The original group also expanded when violinist Queen Kyla Vera was added to the mix.
Although Metalachi often performs covers of classic rock songs in their unusual style, they also perform comedic skits as part of their concerts, and their flair for pageantry helps them stand out even more.
Most of the time, the band tours the Southwest, and they have released three albums thus far. The current line-up is violinist Queen Kyla, guitarist Paco Halen, Kiko Cane playing the guitarron, trumpeter Diable Huero, and vocalist Vega De La Rockhas.
A review says:
“This was the best time I've had at an event in years! The music was great and the band was fun and hilarious.”
Metalachi will be at the historic Whiteside Theatre in Corvallis on February 23. When events like this are planned, organizers can use brochure printing to create informative programs for audiences.
