The documentary by filmmaker Céline Cousteau chronicles the various struggles of the Vale do Javari Indigenous peoples of the Brazilian Amazon in South America. The film sheds light on human rights threats, health issues, gold mining and environmental issues, deforestation, the fight to restore land rights, and the tribes struggling to preserve their homes.
The film is being presented by the Office of the Provost and the OSU Foundation. Film screenings like these may choose to use poster printing to clearly mark the location of the venue for movie audiences.
Cousteau, who is also the founder and executive director of CauseCentric Productions, is involved in various humanitarian and environmental issues across multiple Forms of media, including art, public speaking, and consulting with organizations. She said in an interview with Women and Hollywood that the film was meant to highlight:
“…the many challenges [the Javari Indigenous peoples] face due to illegal activities that threaten their land and life. What is at risk is no less than human life.”
Tribes on the Edge: A Film Screening is happening on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 pm at the OSU PRAx Performing Arts Center on 470 SW 15th Street in Corvallis. The event is free to attend.
