Bend hike to be all about butterflies

A Bend event is set to introduce kids to some colorful and surprisingly hardy Flyers.

The Deschutes Land Trust offers the public a variety of ways to connect with nature, and it will be hosting a Kids’ Butterfly Walk in mid-July. It has a run time of three hours, and the whole family is welcome to take part.

Attendees will be walking on trails at Metolius Preserve, and as they go, they will keep their eyes peeled for butterflies. Techniques for catching and handling these creatures will be shared, and everyone will learn some identification skills. They will have the opportunity to see them up close as well learn about their natural history and what makes them important to the ecosystems they inhabit. Advance sign-up is mandatory to participate. The route followed will begin at the South Trailhead, and participants are reminded to dress for activity and bring a lunch.

The leader for this kid-friendly hike will be Sue Anderson, who has led butterfly walks at the venue for many years. A brochure printing company can prepare simple ID guides, as well as Notebooks and promotional Pens so the attendees in outdoor activities can easily jot down any points they wish.

This introduction to the world of butterflies will hit the trail at 10:00 am on Friday, July 12. Its registration system will open one month in advance.
