Romantic musical coming to Bend

Bend’s Greenhouse Cabaret is hosting Once: The Musical this fall.

Taking place in Dublin, the musical brings together an Irish musician who comes across a Czech immigrant on the cobblestone streets.

The music of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova sets the stage for a story of love and adventure.

Featuring a cast of actors who double as the stage production’s musical talent, as well as a full symphony accompanying them, Once culminates in its signature, Oscar-winning song from the original movie.

Playwright Enda Walsh brings together themes of longing, hope and finding one’s soulmate in an uncertain world.

The stage production is based on the film of the same name, Once, which was released in 2006. The original film is also a musical and focuses on a week in the life of an Irish busker, played by Glen Hansard, and an immigrant, played by Marketa Irglova, as they compose and perform songs about their romance.

The movie was written and directed by John Carney and won an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song for “Falling Slowly”

Musicals like this may choose to use brochure printing for audience programs, show calendars and informational pamphlets.

Once: The Musical has performances from October 17 through November 15, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm each day, Thursdays through Sundays, at the Greenhouse Cabaret at 1017 NE 2nd St. in Bend.
