Cinema and live performance converge in Bend

Silver Moon Brewing is hosting Song of Sunset this March.

The event is a unique blend of cinema and music, involving a short film screening as part of a documentary series about musicians, followed by a live performance of those same artists.

The March event represents the Episode 2 premiere for the Song of Sunset film series, with the first installment debuting back in October.

The series features beauty shots of Bend and local songwriters as they perform in the various venues around town, including on stages and open mics. Intermixed with footage of the scenery of the local nature, filmmaker Brian Craig Hinderger said he was inspired to make the film from a desire to connect with other musicians like himself.

Hinderberger said the project was also meant to highlight the importance of smaller venues, including the likes of local haunt M&J Tavern.

Just like for Episode 1, the next installment of the series will cap off the film screening with a live Nashville-style singer-songwriter circle; a more intimate type of performance that resembles the campfire experience in tone.

Music events like this may choose to use poster printing to create low-cost promotion of both film screenings and stage performances.

Song of Sunset is on Friday, March 20 from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Silver Moon Brewing at 24 NW Greenwood Ave in Bend.
