Bend event to look into landfills
While a trip to a landfill may not be everyone’s idea of a great way to spend a morning, Bend’s Knott Landfill/Deschutes Recycling Center has organized an event next week that it hopes with be both educational and exciting.
The Rethink Waste Project and The Environmental Center have teamed up to give area residents an opportunity to learn more about what happened to their trash and recycling once it hits the curb for pickup. The organizers explained that they hope that the visitors will walk away with a better understanding of where their garbage goes, and they will use this to drive their choices in the future when it comes to reducing waste.
The participants in the tour will visit the trash pit and Knott’s Landfill to see how it operates, and they will also stop by the transfer station, as well as the recycling and composting facilities. It noted that this is a special opportunity, as these sites are not normally open to the public.
By helping to raise awareness among area residents about the various issues surrounding waste disposal and the impact it can have on the environment, an event like this can be important. Promotional products can be prepared to distribute to those who take part in this sort of activity, and print shops will be able to offer options aplenty.
This free chance to discover the city’s solid waste management practices has been planned for the morning of Tuesday, July 2. Anyone who is interested in finding out more information has been asked to get in touch with the event’s planners at ani@envirocenter.org.
