Traveling Vietnam Wall comes to Parma

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) Traveling Vietnam Wall made an appearance in Parma recently, escorted by members of Rolling Thunder.

As many as 1,000 of Rolling Thunder's motorcyclists met the tribute wall on I-71, and accompanied it to the Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus in Parma.

In addition to the bikers, a helicopter from University Hospitals led from the air, while escorts on the ground came from Middleburg Heights, Strongsville, Brunswick, and Parma. The wall moved north on I-71 to the Bagley Road exit to the campus, where it entered via the Pleasant Valley Road entrance. Fire trucks from Parma and Parma Heights raised an American flag for the wall to pass under on its way into the campus.

Tim DeGeeter, Parma's mayor, said the city was proud and honored to be part of the event, and urged residents to visit the Traveling Wall to pay their respects to the more than 50,000 Americans who died in Vietnam.

The Traveling Wall, which is replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C., will officially open to the public at 3:00 pm this Thursday, June 28, and will be open continuously from then until the closing of the event at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 1.
