Tony Vannello, Parma Service Director, explained:
“When the sewer district was building the Veterans Basin, a 4-inch waterline that was unrecorded on any plans was discovered by the contractor. So that section of the waterline, which serviced the concession stand and bathrooms, had to be abandoned. We’re now replacing it with a 2-inch domestic line coming directly from State Road.”
Municipal officials often turn to printing services to keep the public informed about how their tax money is being spent.
The waterline replacement cost will amount to $75,000 and the money was taken from the Community Cost-Share funds of the city’s Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD).
NEORSD funds were also used to finish the $4.5 million Veterans Basin, which was taken on to eliminate flooding in the area by forming a retention basin. The basin can store over 15.5 million gallons of rain drained by the West Creek watershed during storm events and has received positive feedback from the community.
Parma officials have scheduled a dedication for the basin as well as the walking path, which is already being taken advantage of, included in the project to take place on August 1.
