One Parma man has created such an amazing Halloween display that people are coming from all over the state to see it. Nick Meyer, an elevator mechanic, and his friend Anthony Paroda, a carpenter, built a 19-foot-tall All Terrain Armored Transport, or AT-AT walker, first seen in the second “Star Wars” film, 1980's “The Empire Strikes Back.” The walker is almost as tall as Meyer's house, and people have been so delighted with it they're donating money for Meyer's next effort.
The walker's cockpit has red lights that glow in the dark, and a Stormtrooper mannequin stands outside, “guarding” the AT-AT. Meyer said he followed the design on a toy he purchased online to create the walker, which is made out of plastic barrels, foam, and plywood.
This is the sixth year in a row that Meyer has built a Halloween display. His creations have included a pirate ship, and the mausoleum designed for the Addams Family. Meyers takes down the displays in November, then starts planning for the following year.
Meyer said both he and his wife, Becky, love Halloween, especially being able to be kids again, dress up, and decorate their house. This year, to go with the “Star Wars” theme, Nick will dress up as Princess Leia, while Becky impersonates Darth Vader.
Displays can be enhanced by festive Banners that can be used as additional decoration.
