Parma residents enjoy fine art

The Parma Area Fine Arts Council (PAFAC) held its Medley of Art Show on May 17th. According to a recent news item, the exhibits featured in the show included the work of local painters, fiber artists, wood carvers, photographers and jewelry designers.

PAFAC has been around for over 50 years, and members teach art as well as supporting local artists. PAFAC's president is Michelle Baran, who owns Bear Tracks Art, located in Old Brooklyn. She has also been teaching calligraphy, wood burning, and acrylic painting at PAFAC for nine years. Baran says anyone who's willing to take a few classes and put in some time practicing can become an artist.

Another participant in the show is Donata Rahne, a Parma resident who created a still life work using what's called ‘encausting’. This technique calls for applying hot wax to the desired surface, then working in texture and color elements to create the desired effect.

Also exhibiting works in the show was the PAFAC affiliate organization, the Great Lakes Wood Carvers. Stan Stary Jr. is president of GLWC and teaches his craft to eager students. Kathy Mabin, a jewelry designer, also teaches at PAFAC. All Parma residents are encouraged to try their hand at the organization’s classes.

PAFAC could work with brochure printers to get a mailer ready for residents, listing classes and requirements and encouraging participation.
