Maybe it's the pierogies that people will be eating after the race, but organizers of the Run/Walk for Pierogies expect a record number of people to participate in the annual race this year.
According to an article in Cleveland.com, there is a balance between eating Parma pierogies and exercising, and runners hope to find it this year at Tri-C's Western Campus, the site of the race. Everyone who takes part in either the 5K run or the one-mile walk will be able to eat post-race goodies, including, of course, pierogies, and help raise funds at the same time. Monies collected will to Honor Flight Cleveland, The CCC Scholarship Fund, and the Parma Charitable Fund.
This is the sixth year for the run, which is organized by Sean Brennan, the president of the Parma City Council, and members of his running group. Brennan lost his father to a heart attack about ten years ago, and that motivated him to live a healthier lifestyle. The Pierogie race is the result of his passion for combining a healthy appetite with good health.
The race is set for July 2. Last year, the event attracted over 600 people; this year, Brennan says there could be as many as 1,000 runners taking part.
