Parma considers tax rebate for Pitt Ohio

Pitt Ohio, a trucking company based in Pittsburgh, is developing a complex in Parma, and the Parma city council is considering awarding an Economic Development Grant to the company.

Shelly Cullins, a grant writer and economic development officer for Parma, said the grant is for a period of 15 years, during which time Parma will return half of Pitt Ohio’s payroll taxes to the company. For its part, the return of the money is dependent upon it maintaining a payroll of a minimum of $6.8m.

Tim DeGeeter, Parma’s mayor, said that it was exciting to finally be moving forward on the Pitt Ohio project, which has been in the works since 2015. He added that the city and company have a good relationship, and they are looking forward to the start of construction. Pitt Ohio employs about 180 people, and DeGeeter says he anticipates they will add 60 more jobs after having been in full operation for two years.

James Fields, Pitt Ohio’s COO, said the company was happy to be working with Parma, which he describes as a progressive and forward-thinking city.

Cullins said she expects the council to pass the grant in early April, with construction starting this year, giving the facility an opening date of late 2019.
